Belgian and Dutch Painting. 19th-20th Centuries. Catalogue of the collection

68,00 € tax incl.

Belgian and Dutch painting of the 19th and 20th centuries in the State Hermitage is represented by a collection that beyond the borders of these two countries is unique in its fullness. The catalogue acquaints the reader with the works of the most prominent masters such as Louis Gallais, Henri Leys, Henri de Braekeleer, Alfred Stevens, Joseph Stevens, Barend Koekkoek. Various landscapes kept at the Hermitage – summer and winter ones, architectural and nocturnes (night pieces), marines, as well as portraits and still-lifes – reveal lyricism with which Belgian and Dutch painters of the 19th and 20th centuries treated life around them.

Most of the paintings were acquired by the Hermitage from the private collections of the royal family, famous galleries of Prince Alexander Gorchakov and Nikolai Kushelev-Bezborodko and many others. All works by Belgian and Dutch painters of the stated period which are on display in the museum halls and are kept in its store-rooms are included into the catalogue. Some of them are published for the first time.
