Nineteenth-Century Russian Painting. Catalogue of the collection

105,00 € tax incl.

This first ever catalogue of the collection of nineteenth-century Russian painting in The State Hermitage Museum included works by both leading masters (Orest Kiprensky, Alexander Varnek, Karl Bryullov, Vasily Tropinin, Grigory Soroka, Alexey Tyranov, Sergey Zaryanko, Bogdan Willewalde, Alexander Kotzebue, Ivan Makarov, Ivan Kramskoy, Nikolay Ge, Konstantin Makovsky) and less well-known artists. Such variety justifies a description of the Hermitage collection as one of great significance. Its foundations were laid by paintings from the History and Everyday-life Department of the State Russian Museum, which was transferred to the Hermitage in 1941. Since then several generations of  historians and art historians have studied and attributed more than  two hundred works, clarifying dates and other information, all of which is reflected in the catalogue. The book is aimed at specialists and at all with an interest in art.
